八重山博物館について

石垣市立八重山博物館について

　石垣市立八重山博物館は、昭和47年4月に竣工、同年10月18日に開館し、昭和58年3月には、沖縄県立博物館に続いて、沖縄県内では2番目の登録博物館となりました。

　以来、博物館法の理念に基づき、地域に根ざし、地域に学び、地域へ奉仕することを目的に、歴史、民俗、美術、工芸品等に関する資料を収集、保管、展示し、教育的配慮のもとに市民や外来者の利活用を積極的に推進しています。

The Ishigaki City Yaeyama Museum was completed in April 1972 and opened on October 18 of the same year. In March 1983, it became the second registered museum in Okinawa Prefecture, following the Okinawa Prefectural Museum.

Since then, guided by the principles of the Museum Act and with the aim of being rooted in the community, learning from the community, and serving the community, the museum has collected, preserved, and exhibited materials related to history, folklore, art, and crafts, while actively promoting their use by citizens and visitors with an emphasis on educational value.
