Message for the sister city Kaua'i county カウアイ郡の皆様へ

Message for the sister city Kaua'i county from Ishigaki mayor.

Dear residents of Kauai, This is Yoshitaka Nakayama, the Mayor of Ishigaki City.

I hear that the COVID-19 cases have been identified in Kauai as well, and I believe many must be worried and fearful regarding this situation.

I was deeply saddened by the news that number of cases has been still rising, despite the county declared the State of Emergency and asked residents to stay home as much as possible and to avoid unnecessarily outing.

I pray for the well-being of the infected patients, and that there will not be a further increase in cases.

There has also been a reported case in Ishigaki City as of April 13.Ishigaki City have not enough of lacks beds designated for infectious diseases, and all our residents, companies, relevant organizations and authorities are coming together to prevent a further increase in cases.

As sister cities, there are many similarities between us, such as geographical location and tourism being our main industry.

We have interacted over the course of many years, even sending children over from here to Kauai as a part of interaction every year.

We are now facing difficult times, but it is also exactly the time for us to become one, to work hand in hand, encouraging each other to overcome these difficulties.

I sincerely hope that this pandemic of COVID-19 will converge as soon as possible, and the day will come when we can see you again with a smile
